Post-Natal Check

Post-Natal Check and Rehabilitation

Giving birth is a significant trauma for the body, whether through natural birth or C-section. The demands of your new role as a mother can be overwhelming, leaving little time to focus on your own recovery. However, it is crucial to fully heal to be at your best for your newborn!

Pregnancy induces numerous changes in the body. Your ligaments and muscles stretch, your posture shifts, and you gain weight, among other transformations. Now, it is time to gradually return to your pre-pregnancy state. This involves ensuring that everything is functioning properly, addressing any blockages, and assisting in the recovery of any issues such as tears, episiotomies, or diastasis.

At PERFECT BALANCE, we understand how easy it is to overlook self-care amidst new motherhood challenges. That’s why we have a special focus on women's health. Many new mums are unaware of just how crucial Physiotherapy is.

Benefits for Postpartum Rehabilitation

  • Strengthening and healing pelvic floor muscles.
  • Managing postnatal pain, such as lower back discomfort.
  • Addressing any residual issues, like urinary incontinence or diastasis recti.
  • Providing guidance on returning to physical activity safely.

Women's Health Physiotherapy Check included:

  • Abdominal Muscles: Assessment for diastasis (gap between the rectus abdominis).
  • Automatism Evaluation: Examination of automatic muscle responses during activities such as coughing and running. Post-pregnancy, the transverse muscle often becomes weaker, leading to diminished abdominal control. This weakness can contribute to pelvic pain, incontinence, and urgency.
  • C-Section Scar: Examination and guidance on self-massaging the scar.
  • Episiotomy or Tear Scar: Assessment and instruction on scar massage (detailed explanation of this massage can be found here).
  • Pelvic Floor Muscles: Assessment of strength, endurance, and functionality.
